Cyclone Nargis hit the poor disproportionately communities.Cyclone rural and accompanying storm surge flattened towns and villages in the delta, affecting some 2.4 million people and destroying 790,000 homes, 57 percent who were completely destroyed. More than 140,000 people have died.

Nargis, on the other hand, has hit the country in a critical period of years. The month of May in the English calendar year brings the season to prepare rice seedlings will be planted later. As rice in South and South-East Asia, is the culture of many primary (also a staple food) in Myanmar.
